Eyeglasses are a financial investment and it’s important to take proper care of them. Unfortunately, many people don’t take the time to clean glasses properly—opting instead to use the sleeve of a shirt or any nearby cloth. In order to keep your glasses scratch-free, follow our eyeglass cleaning tips! Use a Lens Cloth Always use a dedicated lens or microfiber cloth to clean lenses. Other clothes can have dirt and small particles on them that can cause scratches or other abrasions on lenses. Never Use Household Glass Cleaner You may be tempted to use the cleaner that you use for windows and mirrors on your lenses—but you shouldn’t. These cleaners often contain ammonia that can damage your glasses. Only use eyeglass cleaner or warm water with a bit of dish soap. Clean Often Ensure that you clean your glasses regularly to prevent a buildup of oil and dirt—ideally at least once a day. This buildup can make it difficult to see and can cause symptoms of eyestrain. If your glasses have nose pads, make sure you take some extra time to thoroughly clean them. Store Properly It’s also important to store glasses correctly. When not in use, put glasses in a case to protect them and keep them dust free. It’s also a good idea to keep a soft microfiber cloth in your glasses case for the quick cleanup of smudges while you’re on the go.
